To Michigan For Chemo...Yay!!

Lauren and I left for Michigan Wed. morning at around 8:15. We stopped and got breakfast sandwiches and big drinks at McDonald's as usual. Large Diet Coke for Lauren and large iced tea for me. There is so much construction on the turnpike. The speed limit in these zones is only 50mph, which nobody does, but we definitely go slower than 70. We got to U of M Cancer Center at around 12, which was when her labs were scheduled. About an hour before we get there, Wo puts Lidocaine on her chest where her port is so it is numb. She covers it with Saran Wrap.

She hadn't had her port accessed for around a month, so I was worried it might be clogged or something. She said blood came out very easily and everything worked right. While Lauren was back getting her port accessed, a lady came up to me and asked if she was my daughter. I said yes and she said she just had to tell me that she was gorgeous. This happened about 10 more times (no exaggeration) throughout the day. There is never a time when Lauren and I go somewhere that people don't come up to her and tell her she is beautiful. I love that because Lauren hasn't always had a lot of self esteem. She deserves every ounce of attention she gets. And she so appreciates it.

Lauren had a doctor's appointment with Dr. Zalupski at 1. We always get up there early because labs don't take very long. The medical assistants all love Lauren and are so sweet. They are the ones that take all of Lauren's vitals. We were called back to a room and saw one of Dr. Z's Physician's Assistants named Gwen. She greeted Lauren with a huge hug. She asked a bunch of questions and examined Lauren. Lauren's chest was feeling a bit better, since taking the Hydrocodone instead of Morphine. Lauren told her all the refills she needed for her medications. Gwen then went to get Dr. Z. He came in and examined Lauren too. He asked how her chest was feeling and said to keep taking the pain meds and it should gradually get better. He asked her if she felt up to getting chemo and she said yes, she couldn't wait to have more chemo. It's really weird, but chemo makes her feel better!! Gwen said Lauren's bloodwork looked totally normal. You would never know by looking at her labs that she even had cancer. Dr. Zalupski wanted to have her scheduled for a CT scan at the end of June. We got all of her refills and went to the scheduling desk. She had her next two chemos and CT scheduled. We then proceeded down the hall to the chemo waiting area and Lauren checked in.

Lauren and I in the chemo waiting area.

We didn't have to wait a really long time and got called back. Darn. We were in the big semi-circle room that neither of us like. There is no privacy there. People are sitting so close together. Lauren likes the curtain pulled around her, but we feel sometimes this might hurt people's feelings that are next to us, so we are careful. We didn't pull the curtain this time. So we chatted with an older man that has been getting treatment for 6 years for Multiple Myeloma. Then a lady with a husband getting treatment a few chairs down heard us telling the man we were from Ohio. When I went to get Lauren and myself a bagel in the nourishment room, that lady was in there and asked me where in Ohio we were from. I said Uniontown and her mouth almost dropped to the floor. She said I wasn't going to believe this but she was from Uniontown, but now lives in Michigan, but two of her sisters still live there. She said we looked familiar, but we never figured out how we might have known each other. I said maybe we just had a little ESP thing going on and were drawn to each other. Really freaky!! Then there was"sleeping lady" next to Lauren who didn't wake up until Lauren was about done. She said she had a reaction to her chemo and they gave her Benadryl and it knocked her out. She was really sweet. After the chatterbox older man left, a lady that conducted business while having chemo sat in his chair. She actually ran her office in the chemo chair, taking calls, receiving calls, all the while typing on her computer. Crazy!! Bruce came to see us after he got off work and left to go work out. Sis came a little while later and stayed until we left. We really couldn't wait to get the heck out. We thought we would get out early, but there always has to be a major catastrophe. This time Dr. Z only signed one page of the chemo order instead of two, so they had to page and speak to him and then to a PA in the chemo area to get everything straightened out before they could hook up Lauren's 5-FU pump that she wears home for 48 hours. They finally got it straightened out and we were free.

Sis left to get her car and we met her at Chilis. Lauren's choice. We always get this cheese dip with chips and we are full before our meal. I called Mark and told him all about our day. Bruce was supposed to meet us there, but when Sis called him he was sleeping and didn't feel like coming out. So we ordered him some food to go.

We went back to Sis's and Bruce came out and helped us unload the car. I think Lauren went upstairs and changed her clothes and never came back down. She got ready for bed and laid down. We stayed downstairs for a little while and all went to bed at around 10. I got on FaceBook for a while and read my Kindle for a little bit. Lauren said she didn't sleep well because she kept thinking about the story we were talking about at dinner. Some guy high on drugs that was eating another guys face. So gross. It freaked Lauren out. I set my alarm for 2 and got up to give Wo another Compazine so she wouldn't get nauseous. I never heard Bruce and Sis leave for work. It is always before the sun is even up. I finally got Lauren to get up at 11. We got all of our stuff packed up and went to Bob Evans for breakfast. We then went and got big drinks at Wendy's and some gas at Meijer. We were then on the road for our long ride home. We had some major traffic slow downs on the way home. So much construction and so many trucks!! We didn't get home until 6. Lauren was wide awake and in a good mood the whole way home which makes for a more pleasant trip. Sometimes she is really sleepy and sometimes she is really grumpy. But this time she was a real joy! Loved it.

We were only home for about half an hour and Gio came to pick Wo up so she could go to bowling with him. Lauren likes to go sit and talk to her friends there. So that was our last few days. Thanks for reading. Please keep all of Lauren's CC friends as well as Lauren in your prayers. Our friend, Julia from England, just lost her dear sister, Susan, to this horrible disease. Also our friend, Cindy, who has CC, had some bad news yesterday. Her son-in-law was shot at an apartment complex in Indiana by a crazed gunman. He is ok, but very shaken up. Until next time...

Love, -Pam

This is one of Sis and Bruce's dogs. His name is Stinkinstein or Stink for short. He is the calmer of the two dogs. He has a funny habit where he pulls a blanket out of the laundry room and lays down and sucks on it like a pacifier. So cute.

Wo and Sis at Sis's house last Fall. They were painting their nails and Wo set a paper towel with nail polish on the table and it  ate the finish off the table. She felt so bad and was afraid Bruce would be really mad. He was great about the whole thing. They keep really cute placemats on the table and you never see it. They are probably going to kill me for posting this pic because neither of them look like they have make-up on!!

Busy weekend for Lauren , but still feeling cruddy

It has been a very busy weekend for Lauren, but even today, she still has that darn pain in her chest. I am so glad she is seeing the doctor on Wednesday. Maybe he can give her something that will help with the pain more than what she already has.

Lauren went swimming with me on Saturday. It seems the sun kept going under the clouds and we would get cold in the water. I called and had mulch delivered. I ordered 10 yards. I think the most I had ever ordered before was 7 yards. A huge truck came and dumped it. It was all the way full!! Lauren went to Giovanni's house and they had a barbecue and bonfire with friends including Ryan and Stephanie. I think they got home at around 3am. Mark and I went and got Old Carolina BBQ and brought it home. We went swimming for a while too.

Mark and the huge mulch pile. He doesn't look too happy here!

Mark and I spread mulch on Sunday. Mark did 99% of the work. I helped spread mulch around the trees and in the front flower beds and I was done. Physical labor is not my thing. Gio was at his house painting. Lauren slept in pretty late and came out on the front porch for a while. Wo and Gio had to go to a wedding late Sunday afternoon in Canton. Then the reception was at Prime 63 at Anthe's. They said the food was really good and they had fun with friends. Lauren said her chest hurt so bad at dinner that she almost cried. She started taking Hydrocodone with Tylenol instead of her fast acting Morphine. She said it helps a little bit more than the Morphine. She also started taking a 30mg. long acting Morphine at night instead of the 15 mg. It helps her sleep a little better. Poor kid. I sure hope that radiation is working, given all the pain she has had to go through.

My gorgeous peonies. These are my favorite flower of all.

Monday was another day of mulching for Mark. I went to the grocery store. Ryan had to work as he did yesterday too. Lauren and Gio were working on his house. They came back in the afternoon and went swimming. I made shiskabobs for dinner. I marinated chicken and beef. I also put baby potatoes, green pepper and onion on them. They didn't have any whole mushrooms at the store so I sauteed some on the stove to eat with it. I also made a rice dish that Lauren loves and corn on the cob. We also had pineapple and garlic bread. What a great dinner. It definitely is not my favorite thing to make because it takes a long time to chop, cut and skewer everything. We had a short thunderstorm right when we were grilling of course. Lauren was in a lot of pain at dinner and had to take some medicine. She took a little nap after dinner. I like to post pictures, so the one today has nothing to do with this post, but it is of Lauren and I at chemo before her hair fell out. She tried to keep it for as long as she could. This picture was taken after she donated to Locks of Love. It is growing back some now. Getting a lot thicker. She kind of likes the short hair for swimming. Her real long hair was a real pain for swimming, but so pretty.

Lauren and I at chemo in the Fall 2011

I haven't said much about Bruce and Sis for a while. They seem to be working all the time. Poor Kristen was on home call all weekend. She had to go in on Sat. morning for a 5:30 lung transplant and didn't get to come home until after 8 at night. Then they had friends over for dinner!! I don't know how they do it. Hopefully, they will have more of a life once they are done with their residencies. The last time we were with them, Sis said something that stuck in my head. She said being a doctor isn't a career, it is a lifestyle. A lifestyle a lot of people would not like or have the patience for. I am so proud of both of them for their dedication and hard work.

Thank you all for your continued support and pray that Lauren starts to feel better. Thanks and I will catch you later...

Love, -Pam

Good news!

I e-mailed Dr. Z (Lauren's Oncologist) today because we hadn't heard back from him yet about yesterday's blood test and I get really impatient. I'm sure he would've called later in the day had I given him a chance. I just checked my e-mail at like 8:30 tonight and saw he had e-mailed me back a response about an hour after I e-mailed him. He said he was concerned Lauren's liver functions might be seriously abnormal due to her pain. He said they were not abnormal and her blood counts looked good too!! He wants to see her on Wed. as planned and he will likely give the ok for chemo. That is what we love to hear!

Lauren seemed to feel better today. Her nauseousness was gone and she was less tired. The pain in her chest is still there. I was upstairs and yelled down to her today and she didn't answer. I heard a mower outside, but I figured it was our neighbor. I looked outside and she was zipping around the back yard on the tractor mowing the yard. I did a little trimming in the back with the push mower. I think the last time I mowed was probably 5 years ago or longer. I noticed the push mower was red and I told Wo I thought our mower was green. She said that was our old one. She said we gave that to Sis and Bruce when they first moved into their house. Shows how much I pay attention to stuff like that. It was really hot so we put on our bathing suits and got in the pool. Very refreshing but still a little too cold. We floated around for a bit and it got cloudy. We got out because we were cold and then went in to a freezing house. I am not complaining. Our air broke last year and we suffered a good part of the summer sweating so much. We got a new furnace and AC this year and are loving it.

Here is a little video I uploaded so you can see our pool and backyard. This was taken by Mark last year. He is standing in the kids' clubhouse.

Lauren and Gio had a Date Night tonight. They went and bought a big ottoman/table for the living room at Gio's new house and went to dinner at Don Pablos. I am posting a picture of Wo and Gio. They are such a cute couple and he has been so supportive, loving, and caring of Lauren through this whole thing. I hear it thundering. I think we are in for a thunderstorm. Until next time...

Wo not feeling so great today

Lauren's Radiology Oncologist, Dr. Feng called this morning and I had to wake Lauren up to talk to her. Dr. Zalupski had told Dr. Feng that Lauren had a pain in her chest and Dr. Feng was calling to see how she was doing. Dr. Feng said she looked at Lauren's last MRI and saw one of her small tumors that was being targeted is high in the liver near her diaphragm. She thinks the radiation going to this tumor is causing the pain. She also said Lauren was scheduled for an appt. to see her in six weeks, but she wants to see her sooner. So she was going to have the appt. changed and someone would call us. This is funny because when I called to set up this appt. the scheduler said she had no openings until six weeks from now. You know how it is when you speak with some people that schedule appointments. Geez! Later this morning, Dr. Zalupski called and he wanted Wo to have a blood test today. He wanted to see how her liver was functioning. He said if her tests weren't in the normal range he would cancel chemo for next week and wait a bit.  So he said he would call Mercy in Canton to order the test. Someone from Dr. Feng's office called and said she wanted to see Lauren sooner, so they scheduled her for June 12th. I tried telling them that when I called to schedule the first time, but they wouldn't listen. So happy things seem to work out somehow.

While all of this was going on, Lauren said she thought she was going to throw up. Not nerves or anything, sometimes she just feels sick. Nausea and vomiting are all side effects from her recent procedure. She ate some toast, took all her meds and still felt bad. I made her some scrambled eggs and she drank some ginger ale. Still felt bad. She tried chewing peppermint gum and felt a little better. She felt good enough to go to Mercy at around 2:00. Wow. That is the time to go. Usually, the place is packed, but not today at 2. We got right in and they took Lauren in a room. They had to stick her three times to find a good vein. Her veins just aren't cooperating much anymore. I was sitting in the waiting area and felt it was taking a really long time. So I got up and went to investigate. I guess one guy had tried unsuccessfully and a lady was now digging for a vein. Lauren just sat there like nothing. She is so brave. I went to sit back down and only a few moments later, she was done. We drove home and she is now resting on the couch. She said she is not going to bowling with Gio tonight. She just wants to stay home and try and feel better. I will let you know how the blood tests turn out.

I like to put pictures on this blog, so this one is of all of us last year in Myrtle Beach. This was before Lauren was diagnosed with cancer. She was in pain back then, but had no idea. We had the best time on that vacation. Can't wait to go back. We will probably have to settle for swimming in our backyard this year. We managed to get out there yesterday. Lauren put on a ton of sunscreen because chemo makes you burn easier. Lauren rarely burns. She gets a beautiful tan. The water is still super cold, but hopefully will be warmer after a few days of sun. Take care everyone, and I will post again in a few days.

Love, -Pam

Spending The Day With Grandma Tommie and Papa Ron

Lauren was really excited yesterday when my Dad called and said they would be coming down to see us today. They live up near Lake Erie. My Dad said they would first go to his Mom and Dad's gravesites in Wadsworth and plant flowers. They got to our house around 12:30. We went to Grinders in North Canton for lunch. It was a bit chilly, but we decided we wanted to eat on their patio. It was around 70 degrees, overcast and a little breezy, but nice. Lauren and I had salads. Grandma Tommie had a wrap and Papa Ron had a reuben.

Lauren at Grinders with her Grandma Tommie and Papa Ron.

We decided we would go to Giovanni's family business in Akron. My Mom and Dad always wanted to see the place and they wanted to pick up a few things. The business in called D-A Supply and it is on Wolfs Ledges in Akron. It is a janitorial and restaurant supply store. My Mom and Dad had a great time looking at all the stuff in the store. They have everything!! They had fun visiting with Giovanni, his Dad, John and his brother, Bruno.

Lauren and a little wisk she found at the store.

Lauren and Giovanni at D-A Supply.

On our way home from D-A, Lauren's Oncologist, Dr. Zalupski, called to see how she was doing. How sweet is that. A doctor with so many patients takes time out of his busy schedule to call and check on Lauren. This is why we love U of M so much. She told him that the last couple of days have been pretty rough with the pain in her chest, especially at night. She told him she felt a lot better today and it is only causing her a lot of pain when she burps, coughs, or breathes really hard. When we got back to our house, we visited for a while with my Mom and Dad.  Ryan was there. He had gone on a 60 mile bike ride with one of his friends. Good Lord, how can anyone ride one of those bikes with the skinny seat for 60 miles? He wears the whole get up. Spandex, bright jersey, shoes that clip in his pedals, and a helmet. I would kill for his legs!!

My Mom and Dad left for home and Lauren and Gio went to paint at his house. Lauren said she has had enough of laying on the couch at Gio's.  She is ready to get working again. You cannot keep her down. We sure had a fun day today.  Thanks for your continued support.  Until next time...

Theraspheres are in...Now let's kill that cancer

Well, here I am at my nice new blog.  I'll start here where I left off last time and hopefully remember everything.  Don't count on it.

Tuesday, the 15th was my 54th birthday, but since we were leaving for Michigan on Tuesday for Lauren's Therasphere procedure, Mark wanted to get me something on Monday. We went to Home Depot and I picked out a cute little glider for our front porch. We like to sit outside sometimes and just look at our pretty flower gardens. I don't know how great they are going to be this year. I just don't seem to have the energy to take care of a ton of flowers, but we will see. We decided to eat at a small restaurant called Samantha's down in Belden. We just sat down and Lauren called us and said they were at Rockne's right next door and to come and join them. So we had a nice dinner with Lauren and Gio. They had more shopping to do and Mark and I went home and he put my glider together. I love it.

We wanted to leave Tuesday by 3. Yeah right!! I had done a bunch of laundry, cleaned, and got everything ready for our trip to Michigan. Mark tried to leave work as soon as he could. I think he got home around 3 and had to pack his bag. We left at around 4:30. I wanted to get there because Kristen had made reservations at an Italian restaurant for my birthday dinner for 8. I didn't want to be late because Kristen and Bruce never get enough sleep as it is, so I didn't want to keep them out too late. I think we got to their house at around 7:30, hurried and put on our dress clothes and left. She had changed the reservations for a little later. We got there pretty quick because Bruce has a lead foot and doesn't mess around! The restaurant was downtown Ann Arbor. It is called Palio. There are a lot of tables right out on the sidewalk, as there are at all the cute restaurants downtown. They have a rooftop area too, but it didn't open until the next day. I was kind of disappointed. The food was very delicious. There was a lot of rich cheese though and Lauren tried to steer clear of anything really rich. She had a nice salad and pasta with pesto, but she still got really queasy after dinner. Gio came up after work on his own and met us at the restaurant. I was glad he got to join us. We went back to Sis and Bruce's and she had gotten me a cake. It was really pretty and good, but we were all so full, it was hard to enjoy. I got a hanging basket and a gift card from Bruce and Sis along with The Hunger Games book and a bottle of moscato. Lauren felt bad because she left my present from her and Ryan on her bed at home. Oh well. Something to open on another day when we got home. I forgot to say that at the restaurant, if it is your birthday, your dinner is free and you get dessert too. I took the peanut butter pie and gave it to Bruce. My dinner was probably over $20, so that was great!  Lauren took any nausea med she could get her hands on and sat up in bed and chewed peppermint gum and drank diet ginger ale to try and settle her stomach. She still had a belly ache in the morning. Could've been nerves too.
Pictures of Palio from their website.

We needed to be at the hospital and in the Radiology dept. by 11 on Wed.  Kristen and Bruce had already left for work when we got up. I think they get there at 5:30 or 6. We left their house at around 10:15 and got there and registered before 11. Lauren was called back to the pre-op area and I went with her. She changed into a gown, got her IV started and all the basic stuff. They gave her an antibiotic in her IV just as a precaution. Her nurse this time was the sweetest thing. She said they would be giving her Zofran in her IV for nausea and Lauren told her it gives her migraines. We found that out after chemo at the beginning. We told her before chemo, the nurses give her Aloxi. I guess this is liquid gold. Super expensive stuff that they only use in the infusion area. Her poor nurse went to a bunch of different pharmacies and all over the hospital looking for some Aloxi. She was gone forever. I guess she finally found some in the chemo area of the Cancer Center. I told her nurse about the problem with Lauren being exposed for everyone to see last time during the mapping, and she said she would tell the nurse that would be taking care of Lauren during the procedure to make sure it didn't happen again. Mark and Gio came back and sat with Lauren for a while. Then the nurse came to get her. We kissed her goodbye and went to the waiting room. Mark and Gio went to get breakfast in the cafeteria. I wanted to stay in the waiting room. I was a little nervous, not as bad as I thought I'd be. Lauren's Radiology Oncologist came out to the waiting room and said the procedure went very well and she was very pleased. Then Lauren's liver surgeon, our favorite doctor, came out to see us. What a surprise. He said he had peeked in on her to see how she was doing. He also said he was pleased and they would decide what to do next after seeing the results from this. I cannot tell you how much we love this man!!  It was only a few hours and we got called back to recovery. Lauren was laying flat. She had to lay that way for 2 hours. I guess she would have had to lay still a lot longer if her doctor didn't use this thing called and Angio-seal. It is a little plug they use to plug the artery they puncture for the procedure. I asked her if anything hurt and she said she had some bleeding so the doctor had to apply pressure for like 5 minutes and it really hurt. She said the procedure itself didn't hurt and she couldn't tell when the radioactive beads went in. They are so tiny. Way smaller than even fine sand. She said they did a great job of keeping her covered up. She seemed better to me after this than she did after the mapping. She was hungry and thirsty, so her recovery room nurse got her some ginger ale and a turkey sandwich with chips and a fruit cup. The nurse made her get up and walk after laying for 2 hours. She got to get dressed and she gave us her going home instructions. Side effects are fever, nausea, fatigue, and pain. Some people do very well and some get really sick. Lauren hopped in a wheelchair and we headed back to Kristen and Bruce's house. Lauren laid on the couch and Mark went and got her some food. We had pizza and salad. Lauren had chicken. She wasn't very hungry. She wasn't very comfy on the couch, so she decided to climb the stairs and lay in a bed. She stayed there all night. She was really tired. I made sure she had nausea and pain meds every 3or 4 hours. She slept really well.

Lauren after her Therasphere procedure when she had to lay flat.

Gio had left the night before to go home because he had to work. We left for home at around 11. Lauren sat in the front seat with it fully reclined. She slept most of the way home and got in her bed when we got home. We discovered my blue and white chair in the family room was demolished when we got home. The whole side was chewed off and there was blood all over it. The guilty party was our dog named Frank. He is a Husky mix and a crazy dog. He is 11 years old and still as hyper as he was at 1. He freaks out sometimes and goes bonkers. That just so happened when we were gone and Ryan was taking care of him. Ryan said he kept barking and panting, and when he let him out he barked to come in. Maybe he had anxiety because we were gone. It was a nice chair, but I've had it for over 10 years so I'm not that upset. Not as upset as the time he tore the whole front off our oven or ripped a giant whole in our carpet. We are dog lovers, but this dog is ridiculous.

Lauren continued to rest in her bed and felt ok except for a pain in her upper left chest. Sat. morning, it was still hurting and I started to worry she could have a blood clot or something. I wondered if we should go to the ER. I dug Dr. Zalupski's card out of Lauren's huge file that we carry to every appt.  I  flipped the card over and it said Residence number. This couldn't be his home phone, could it? I told Lauren to dial it and talk to him because she could better describe her pain. A woman with a friendly voice answered and Lauren asked to speak to Dr. Z.  It was his home phone!! Lauren told him about her pain and he asked her a bunch of questions. He said it didn't sound like anything serious and he said it was probably from the procedure. I know when Lauren was first diagnosed with CC, she used to get bad pain in her shoulder, so this made sense. It is probably a nerve or something. Maybe even a pulled muscle. She said she jerked real hard when the doctor was pushing on her leg. I was relieved. She is doing remarkably well. She went to Gio's yesterday and mostly laid on the couch while he worked.

The company Mark works for had a car cruise-in to benefit Kent Social Services Saturday. There were 70 hot rods and classic cars there along with free food and a DJ. Mark said it was a huge success. He said he had so much fun with the whole thing. We would have liked to have gone, but felt it would be too much for Lauren to handle. One of Mark's bosses, named Bruce drove his T-bird there and made Mark drive it home for the weekend. He wanted Lauren to drive it, so last night we went to dinner at El Rincon and Lauren drove Giovanni to the restaurant. She said it was really fun to drive. I know you read this Bruce, so thanks for making Lauren happy. We tease him and call him Lauren's Sugar Daddy, because he is always doing nice things for her.

Mark made a big breakfast this morning and Lauren and Gio went to his house to paint. Lauren laid on the couch most of the day because her chest still hurts. Mark and I put the solar heater on the pool and Mark hooked up all the hoses. We are excited that it is pool time again. Like vacation in our own back yard! We have had this pool for quite some time and are so grateful to have it. It was one of our best purchases. I forgot to tell you that Lauren and Ryan got me a Kindle for my birthday and Gio gave me a case for it and $30. What a great present. My first book is 50 Shades of Grey. What a naughty book. Mark says he might read it when I'm done. I think not. I am posting a few pics of Lauren and Gio in the T-bird. if I can figure out how to!! Sorry this post is so long. I will try to post more often. Thanks for reading and please continue to pray for Lauren and her CC buddies. God bless you all and much love,

-Pam

New place...Feels great!!

Hi Everyone,

I have decided to make a blog page instead of posting on CaringBridge.  CaringBridge is awesome, but I felt a little stifled in my creativity. I like to post a lot of pictures and may even start making little videos of Lauren as we continue to along this journey. I hope you all continue to follow this blog. I'm sure you found this by my post on CaringBridge or Facebook. Please add this to your Favorite's List and check back often.  Love to all of you.  -Pam

Lauren's CaringBridge site

For those of you that are new to reading about Lauren, here is the blog I wrote before this one. It tells all about us since last September.
