Thursday Morning Post 5/30/13

Poor Lauren had a really bad night. My Mom and Dad were with me and all of us and Sis and Bruce just finished eating outside on the hospital grounds. We had all been upstairs visiting in Lauren's room and Lauren was resting comfortably. They had started taking more fluid off her and we thought things were improving. Bruce and Sis left to go home after dinner. When we got back to the room, Lauren seemed to be breathing very labored and moving her head around a lot with her eyes open. I asked her nurse if she could give Lauren more pain meds, but she said she was already getting a constant drip of Fentanyl. I knew in my heart that something was wrong. She seemed to get worse after being laid flat and turning her. They do this every two hours to prevent bedsores. Her pulse oxygenation kept going down. They like it to be in the high 90's. 100 is the best. Hers was going into the 70's and no matter what the respiratory therapist did to bring it back up didn't work. We were all so scared. The fellow and resident on call called the attending at home and he was here so fast. Her xray that they took at night looked a lot worse than the one in the morning. They decided to do a bronchoscope on Lauren. She had a lot of old blood in her lungs that was causing them not to inflate. The docs suctioned it out and her pulse ox slowly climbed back up. She is on a ton of meds again today. Kristen and Bruce came in last night to check everything out and didn't leave until after 1:00 am. Kristen did go to work today, but her boss told her she would get her covered and she could have the day off. Poor Bruce still had to work, but should get off early today. My Mom and Dad were here that late too and came back this morning. I don't know what I would do without my family. Please pray really hard for a miracle. I called Mark and Gio and told them they might want to come up because her condition changes minute by minute. They are coming up later today. I will update as things change.

Love,
-Pam

  4. Oh Pam, there are no words to say. I too worried when there was no update after the last post. I hoped it was because you were to busy celebrating and chatting with Lauren. I can only imagine what Mark and Gio must be going through having to function when all they want is to be there. Pam, I don't want to make this about me but the only HOPE and comfort I know is to tell you what poor Lauren and you all are going through is mirroring my life 4 years ago. My oncologist told me last year that everday she thought would be the last, but Pam I made it!!! And once again just a reminder that Dr. Sonndey is Dr. Chapman's protégé and he obviously has the same love, fortitude, and belief in the power of prayers, as his mentor does, he called Dr. Chapman his "HERO". There is HOPE and miracles, I am proof, it will turn around, she is surrounded by love and prayers. Please call if you want to talk, cry or pray!! (618-567-3247)

    1. Hi Cathy,

I know you are the miracle for all with CC and I hope and pray so much that Lauren can also be a miracle. Don't ever feel like you can't talk about yourself. I love hearing about your miracle. Dr. Sonnenday tells us all the time to pray. If Dr. Chapman is even a small bit as sweet as Dr. Sonnenday, he is awesome. We love him so much. Thanks, Cathy. I will try to call you once I get my brain back. I am in such a fog right now!!

  5. Pam,
You wrote this with a heavy heart and I wish your burdens could be eased, but as a mother that’s not an easy task. I’m praying for your precious daughter, for you and your family. I’m deeply saddened to learn what’s been going on. Lauren deserves a miracle, but until that happens she has her devoted family to stand lovingly by her.
I’m praying for Lauren to recover and for peace and grace be upon you and carry you through this difficult time.
    Hugs, Cathy and Heather

  6. I went to high school with Lauren, but didn't really know her that well. Yet, so many people have shared her story via Facebook that I feel like I know her now and can see what a beautiful, vibrant young woman she is. Please know that your story has touched so many people and that we are all praying for your family. Take care.

  8. I too went to high school with Lauren and just like the post above I did not know her well during those years. I have been following updates via Facebook and your blog and continue to think about and pray for her constantly! The support I see from her family and close friends is just amazing, there are also so many more prayers coming in for having the courage to share your story. Prayers and god bless

  9. Praying for healing and recovery from this extremely difficult time. My sister was in a similar situation and pulled through after 3 weeks in ICU. Your daughter has resilience, youth and love on her side...that and superb doctors and nurses.

  11. Pam, I just starting following your posts about your daughter Lauren, from Lori Vogt's post a few weeks ago. I am saying prayers for Lauren, your family and her Dr's as they care for her and you care for one another! Prayers of strength, healing and unbending faith are on our hearts. As the person before me said, "God will provide".

  12. Sending you love and light Pam. I also started following your posts about your beautiful daughter Lauren quite recently - just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you all and praying for Lauren to stay strong and keep fighting. She is obviously in good hands and surrounded by so many that love and support her. I hope that she recovers soon.
